It's not academically challenging, but focuses on the real needs of the individual person. The first part of the book (question and answer session) is to the point and interesting to read. It maintains your interest in the subject. The second part on techniques is a little more technical and demanding that requires active participation by the reader. The information throughout is well structured and to the point. The author doesn't waste any words on artificial padding of the material. A very good book with nice cartoon illustrations! I liked it very much and will recommend it to my friends should they need to de-stress!!!! Would have preferred it to be a little cheaper! I was surprised how manual like it was - which I really appreciated. (The front cover was the main initial reason why I purchased the book. It was so different and clinical.) It would be ideal for those people who don't have the time of day to be reading dense books on the psychology of well-being. It was refreshing to read - especially with the cartoons lightly dispersed throughout the book. It may have been a good idea to have a small section in the appendix dealing with some alternative medical remedies dealing with stress and anxiety - so as to enhance the holistic appeal of the book that the author was trying to get across. Also, another section on advanced meditative techniques, would have increased its readership appeal -esp. incorporating eastern philosophies. But in general, it was an enjoyable book to read - the Penguin size of the book further enhanced its practical qualities of carrying it around as and when required, and making the reading experience more enjoyable in your own spare time - in my case, on my train journeys!!! |
